Take a Tour of the Quick™ Series Mowers

One of our goals is to make your entire ownership experience a Better one. From initial purchase, through use and maintenance and finally repair, we want you to be completely happy with your new mower. The first step toward that result is to give you a detailed look at all that's built-in to our Quick™. This will help you to make a decision that you're comfortable with about whether our product is right for you.

Let's begin by looking at the big features of all Quick™ series mowers:
  • Deep Tunnel Cutting Decks Provide "Push-Mower" Quality in a Fraction of the Time.
  • Hydrostatic Transaxle and Simple Operating Controls Provide Great Maneuverability and Exceptional Ease-of-Use
  • Wide Range of Hi-Torque, Fuel-Efficient Engine Options from Briggs & Stratton and Kawasaki
  • Quick™ is Designed to Provide Extra Measures of Safety Without "Getting in Your Way"
  • Simple to Maintain and Repair. Service Parts Couldn't be Easier.
Compact In Size, Big In Results

The heart of every Quick™ is its cutting deck. Mowers in this class usually have box decks because they're cheaper and easier to make. The Quicks use a progressive deep tunnel cutting design moves grass more efficiently and produces a “pool table smooth” quality of cut. We've had customers compare our cutting quality to that of a 21" push, which is high-praise indeed.

Cutting the grass is one thing, clearing it out of the deck is another. Like most commercial mowers, the cutting deck of every Quick™ is fabricated from 10 gage steel sheet (with a 1/4" thick bumper) and then welded to make it more rigid and durable. What's different is that ours is a "tunnel" design. Having a progressively larger discharge tunnel utilizes the centrifugal fan action of the fully-baffled blades to efficiently lift, cut and then discharge the grass. The benefit to you is a mower that gives you an exceptionally clean cut.

Our compact design utilizes considerably shorter blades than average mowers. This makes for a couple of nice advantages. Shorter blades are lighter which puts less strain on the spindles, making them last longer. Shorter blades also allow the mower to be very compact which makes the Quick™ much more maneuverable. And, since Quick™ is actually shorter (by 6-8") than a typical 21" push mower, it takes up far less space in your garage when you're not using it.

Setting the height of cut on the Quick™ series mower is easy. Just re-arrange the spacers on the caster forks and then adjust the rear of the deck to match. Setting the rear adjusters means loosening two nuts, sliding the spring-assisted deck to the desired position and re-tightening the nuts. Takes one person about two minutes from start to finish and keeps the deck perfectly level in all seven cutting positions. If you prefer, the mowing deck can be infinitely adjusted to provide deck “pitch” which sets the blades slightly “up” or slightly “down” in the back. Our adjusters allow you to decide how to “tweek” your mower for the perfect cut. Adjustments range from one to four inches in half-inch increments.

Operating The Quick™ Is In a Word; Convenient

The hydrostatic drivetrain used in every Quick™ series mower has been proven in over a million riding tractors weighing 2-3 times as much. In our mower, it's simply bullet-proof. Hydrostatic drive is the most sought-after feature in a walk-behind mower and it's easy to see why. Hydrostatic Drive gives you these great features:
  • No shifting, clutching or living with "not quite right" speeds. The Tuff Torq hydro lets you set the walking pace exactly where you want it. From slow maneuvering to full-out fast, the perfect speed is right there, right now.
  • Changing directions is instant. Unlike belt and gear-drive mowers that require you to clutch and shift, the Quick™ series mowers can change directions from forward to reverse and back, instantly. Mowing in under low-lying branches and around fences, trees and other obstacles has never been this easy.
  • Sealed transaxle design makes it work dependably forward and reverse, in all conditions, wet or dry.

Unlike most mowers in this price range, every Quick™ is equipped with full-sized commercial wheels and tires. This gives the machine excellent hill and curb climbing ability and also provides low turning resistance making it easier to handle. We’ve also included some nice refinements into all versions of the Quick™ line-up as standard equipment including our Top-Link™ deck leveling system, easy-service battery mounting, grease fittings on critical pivot points, adjustable handlebars and extended oil drains making oil-changes easy and “mess-free”.

We've designed the controls of the Quick™ to give you the full advantage of the hydro drive.

The operating controls are simple; a squeeze lever for forward and a thumb lever for reverse. Everything you need for changing speed or direction is comfortably at your right hand.

Our hydro drive, the controls, our lightweight and compact size all add-up to a mower that's super-maneuverable and easy to operate.

Wide-Range of Engine Options

Better delivers a great line up of four different engine options to chose from for your new Quick™.

Briggs & Stratton is the “Grand-Daddy” of outdoor power equipment engine companies. We’re proud to offer two Briggs models providing either the economical 13.5 HP manual start Intek or our torquey 14.5 HP Intek with standard Electric Start. Designed with great features like full-pressure lubrication and spin-on oil filters, our Briggs powered machines have consistently delivered excellent service in the field. They represent a remarkable value.

Many of our pro customers asked for a 15HP manual start Kawasaki and now you’ve got it! Smooth, powerful and very (very) quiet, the Kawasaki Twins are the ultimate engine for your Quick™.

Our engine line-up includes:
  • 13.5 HP Briggs Intek Manual Start (Super Fox)
  • 14.5 HP Briggs Intek Electric Start (Super Duty)
  • 15.0 HP Kawasaki KAI Manual Start (Ninja)
  • 16.0 HP Kawasaki KAI Electric Start (Samurai)

Whatever your needs, we’ve got an engine option that’s perfect for your application.

Another great thing about both Briggs & Stratton and Kawasaki is their service. With THOUSANDS of Authorized Servicing Dealers worldwide, you will be able to get affordable parts and qualified service wherever you are. And they're both warranted for two full years of residential use, one year for commercial.

Good Safety Systems Should Be Invisible

We all know that lawn mowers can be dangerous by their nature. All brands have safety systems to reduce the risk, but many are so cumbersome and awkward to operate that people disable them in frustration. We believe that good safety systems should be nearly invisible to the operator.
At Better, we've designed our ANSI-Compliant Quick™ series mowers to have safety systems that don't get in your way. They include:
  • Noram SoftStart™ or Extreme Duty™ Mower Deck Drive Clutch-Brake quickly stops your blades in around 3 seconds (plus it makes your belts last a lot longer).
  • Neutral-Start Only circuitry prevents unintentional starting
  • Operator Presence lets the mower "know" when you're in the operator's position and shuts things down if you leave the machine in an unsafe mode
  • "Default to Neutral" hand controls. Let go of the machine and it stops
  • Automatic Braking System engages the brakes to a "park" position simply by letting go of the handle.

Easy To Live With

The Quick™ series mowers were designed from the start to require very little maintenance. All we'd like for you to do is add gas, change the oil & filters once in a while, occasionally grease a few things and keep your blades sharp (they come off with one bolt).

Too make your life easier, we build each Quick™ using high-quality components. Ball bearings in places where others use bushings. Constantly-tensioned drive belts with Kevlar cords for long life. Control cables with premium wire and lined conduits. Greaseable and re-buildable mower spindles. All this adds up to a machine that lasts a long time and requires very little pampering.

When it does become time to repair your Quick™, you'll find it very simple and intuitive to work on. Our Owner’s Manual includes detailed information on servicing and repair of every aspect of the machine. With our "What You See Is What You Get" Online Parts Ordering System, getting your repair parts could not be faster, more convenient or less expensive.
